About this role

As Chief Hotel Engineer, you will maintain responsibility and authority in physical property, including planning, implementing, coordinating and managing all mechanical operations, maintenance, repair, design, specification, and modification. You will oversee department budget controls and provide coaching, teaching and formal supervision to individual employees. Plan and monitor appropriate staffing levels and utilization of labor, including overtime.

Liaise with Gallaudet University on all building systems including fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC and electrical issues. Maintain on-going communication with clients, management team and vendors. Perform daily walk through all areas and talk to managers in Front Desk, Kitchen, Banquets, Finance, Sales.

Manage contractor and vendor work in conjunction with University Facilities. Analyze utility consumption including moving to more energy efficient facility. Develop safety policies, procedures, and programs for the property while ensuring all buildings and equipment are in good working order.

Perform human resource functions for staff, including supervision, training, and evaluating. Prepare and deliver performance appraisals and mentor team members to further develop competencies. Requirements

  • Minimum formal education of a higher education institution or applicable certifications and five years supervisor and job related experience
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing systems
  • Knowledge of OSHA and general safety
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Work may require evening, night, holiday, or weekend assignments
  • Schedule varies according to business demands and needs

Responsibilities

  • Manage capital budget and projects; prepare and execute department budget in conjunction with General Manager
  • Liaise with Gallaudet University on all building systems including fire/life safety, plumbing, HVAC and electrical issues
