About this role

The Hotel General Manager bears overall operational and financial responsibility for the entire Hotel Department on board the vessel. They model Culture essentials while collaborating with the Ship’s Executive Committee and Hotel discipline leaders. Focus areas include exceeding safety compliance, guest satisfaction goals, brand standards, profitability, and crew welfare.

Daily efforts center on ensuring premium guest services aligned with Holland America Line’s Brand procedures and strategic initiatives. They analyze electronic Guest Surveys and feedback to establish action plans for senior leadership, updating shoreside teams regularly. Continual inspections maintain guest service standards throughout cruises.

Revenue management involves reviewing financial benchmarks, costs, and inventory with the Finance Manager to hit targets. They drive onboard revenue, oversee marketing and promotions consistent with brand goals, and chair revenue meetings. All onboard cash handling complies with Accounting and Financial policies.

Operations oversight includes directing all Hotel activities, fostering communications via department head meetings, and promoting a “One Team” approach with the Executive Committee. They build long-term maintenance plans for dry-dock needs and develop innovative hospitality concepts for brand approval. Staff development supports overall Hotel crew welfare.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership in hotel operations on cruise vessels
  • Proven ability to achieve guest satisfaction goals through feedback analysis and action plans
  • Financial acumen for revenue maximization, cost management, and P&L responsibility
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental compliance, and regulatory standards in maritime hospitality
  • Experience overseeing multicultural crews and staff development in shipboard environments
  • Familiarity with brand standards for consistent product delivery
  • Skills in chairs revenue meetings and fostering team approaches to profitability

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction by providing premium guest services aligned with Brand procedures
  • Analyze guest feedback from surveys and tracking programs to establish action plans for department leadership
  • Conduct periodic reviews of financial benchmarks, costs, expenditures, and inventory levels
  • Drive onboard revenue performance and achieve objectives across all Hotel areas
  • Direct and oversee all Hotel Operations onboard the vessel
  • Promote effective communications through regular department head and inter-departmental meetings
  • Build long-term maintenance plans for dry-dock interventions or travelling work squads
  • Develop new brand-centric initiatives and innovative hospitality concepts for approval
